The weather always seems to be a popular topic of conversation. We grumble that it's either too cold, too hot, too wet or too dry. But at the moment there's certainly no getting away from the fact that temperatures have been soaring, making us feel somewhat sticky and uncomfortable.
So what can we do to ease the discomfort and stay well during the heatwave?
The NHS recommend such steps as having cool baths and showers and splashing yourself with cool water; drinking lots of cool drinks (but not too much alcohol), wearing loose clothing; staying out of the sun between 12 and 3; shading windows with light coloured curtains or blinds; actually closing windows when the day's at it's hottest, but opening them at cooler times.
You definitely need to head for the shade in the middle of the day, this is when a veranda is ideal. Alternatively replacing your existing glass conservatory roof with a Warm Roof (it's insulation can help keep the room cooler in summer) will provide a comfortable space to retreat. And keeping your windows in tip-top condition, with an easy to open style that suits you, will help control air flow.
Keep cool this summer!
