Let In The New Year!

We’re about to embark on another new year – here’s hoping you all have a great 2022! But how many of you will be including age-old traditions in your New Year celebrations?

It is said that you should wear new clothes on New Year’s Eve, not just to look glam for any parties you may attend, but to ensure you’ll look and feel good during the coming year. Noisy celebrations including fireworks are said to ward off evil, and let’s face it, are great fun too!

First footing is something many of you may have heard of, though it is mainly a tradition in Scotland and Northern England. The first person to enter the house after the stroke of midnight is meant to set the tone for the coming year’s fortune. The luckiest people are considered to be dark-haired men, whilst the least lucky are thought to be females or fair-haired men. The first-footer should come with a gift – a coin signifies prosperity, whilst evergreen suggests long life and a drink is said to bring good cheer.

Even if you don’t take part in first footing, you may well hold the belief that you should open your back door to let out the old year, before opening the front door to let the New Year in. Still on the subject of doors (one close to our hearts) hanging lemons in doorways is meant to promote positive energy! And talking of doors, why not update yours in 2022?

If all these things are a bit far-fetched for your liking, you may be happy to uphold some of the more down-to-earth superstitions. For example, you should not sweep away dust on New Year’s Day as you can supposedly clear away your good luck, nor should you do the laundry.

However you celebrate New Year, have a great one! And remember if you’re looking to improve your home in 2022, you know where to come!

Good Tidings We Bring!

To think another year is already nearly over, hope you all had a peaceful and happy one. The Horsford team would like to take this moment to wish every one of you a very Merry Christmas and thank you for your custom throughout the year.

Thank you too, for your glowing reviews during 2021. When those new home improvements beckon in 2022, we hope you’ll continue to use Horsford Windows to make the most of your property!

Whatever you plan on doing this Christmas, we wish you a very merry time. And when you’re all sitting round the dinner table, don’t forget you can make future gatherings that bit easier, with the extra space made by a new conservatory or orangery.

As with our showroom, we assume many of you will be dressing the inside of your homes with lights, trees and tinsel, and if you want to share your decorations with the rest of the neighbourhood, be sure to display them near your (Horsford) windows!
