Keeping Cool

The weather always seems to be a popular topic of conversation. We grumble that it's either too cold, too hot, too wet or too dry. But at the moment there's certainly no getting away from the fact that temperatures have been soaring, making us feel somewhat sticky and uncomfortable.

So what can we do to ease the discomfort and stay well during the heatwave?

The NHS recommend such steps as having cool baths and showers and splashing yourself with cool water; drinking lots of cool drinks (but not too much alcohol), wearing loose clothing; staying out of the sun between 12 and 3; shading windows with light coloured curtains or blinds; actually closing windows when the day's at it's hottest, but opening them at cooler times.

You definitely need to head for the shade in the middle of the day, this is when a veranda is ideal. Alternatively replacing your existing glass conservatory roof with a Warm Roof (it's insulation can help keep the room cooler in summer) will provide a comfortable space to retreat. And keeping your windows in tip-top condition, with an easy to open style that suits you, will help control air flow.

Keep cool this summer!

A Handy Addition

Porches may be considered rather grand affairs, enhancing the appearance of impressive historical buildings and churches, with some examples being rather ornamental. Of course, they're also considered a place of shelter, somewhere to dash into in the pouring rain – a must for this time of year!

By adding a porch to your home, you'll not only introduce an interesting feature to make your house stand out from the crowd, but you'll also be creating an area to leave muddy shoes and boots, damp coats and umbrella's or any other paraphernalia that you don't want to drag through the house.

We're sure you'll find all kinds of handy uses for your Horsford porch, in addition to cutting down on those draughts when you answer a knock at the door!

So give us a call and see how a bespoke porch can enhance your home on: 01603 666414. Alternatively you can email us at: sales@horsfordwindows.com

What A Transformation!

As much as you may love your existing conservatory, does it offer sufficient insulation to make it energy efficient and to maintain an even, year-round temperature?

It’s possible to transform your conservatory, both in terms of providing a more constant, ambient temperature and improving appearance, by replacing the existing roof with a smart new Horsford Warm Roof. Available in a range of tile and slate finishes, the roof not only performs better, it looks better too!

The tiled roofing system (using Extra Light tiles) offers greater insulation, making it more thermally efficient, reduces necessary maintenance and comes with a 10-year guarantee. With the choice of a flat or vaulted ceiling internally that can be given a plaster or timber effect finish, your conservatory becomes more usable as an ‘extra room’ whether it be for dining, entertaining or relaxing.

“Thank you to everybody at Horsford Windows & Conservatories for our new insulated conservatory roof. We're thrilled with the whole installation and wouldn't hesitate recommending you to others...” H E, May 2021

Let the Light in

Glass was first used in windows around 100 AD by the Romans, whilst paper was widely used in ancient China, Korea and Japan. Prior to that animal hide or cloth was placed over window openings. In 14th century England, window panes were made from flattened animal horn, with glass not that common until the 17th century. Early glass was very thick and not really transparent, but gradually glass-making techniques improved, making it thinner and clearer.

Today’s window glass offers a clear view of the outside world and it's more thermally efficient too, helping to keep your home warmer. Our windows are rated 'A' for energy efficiency and are available in a large range of styles to suit your home!

“Extremely good communications throughout process. Quality of windows is excellent and priced competitively. The fitters worked hard and left no mess whatsoever. Thanks” Mrs Smith, July 2020

A Roof For All Seasons

At Horsford, we fit and supply conservatories to suit all styles and sizes of property.

Conservatories are a popular addition to many homes, increasing living space, whilst adding character. However, when fitted with glazed roof panels, they can ‘overheat’ during the summer months, yet cool down a little too much in the winter. That’s why Horsford is pleased to introduce the new tiled roofing system for conservatories.

The tiled roof structure offers a fully insulated system, with a U-value of just 0.15, keeping the internal temperature more constant throughout the year. The 100m insulation panels also provide noise reduction, making your conservatory an even more peaceful and comfortable place to be.

The tiles are available in a variety of colour options and materials. Composite roof slates consist of a blend of slate and polypropylene, ensuring durability – they do not warp or crack. Alternatively, standard, lightweight steel tiles are available to suit all tastes and budgets.

Whether planning a new conservatory, or looking to replace the roof of an existing structure, this tiled roof system will provide an ambient environment with a stylish finish.
